2022 IMSA ROLEX 24:Roar Before the 24 Qualifying Race from Daytona

On Sunday January 23, 2022, the Roar Before the 24 Qualifying Race at Daytona was won by the #10 Wayne Taylor Acura AXR-05. By winning the Qualifying Race, it will put drivers Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque on the Pole for the 24 Hours Of Daytona by Rolex to be held on the weekend of January 29-30 for the season opener for the IMSA Season. Also as a bonus to the team, 35 points toward the Championship are awarded to the Pole Winners.

In the GT Classes, which we follow a little closer, the Lamborghini #63 driven by Mirko Bortolotti won the GTD PRO Class to take the MOTUL POLE AWARD with a late race pass to take the lead from the #79 WeatherTech Porsche 911 GT3R

In the GTD Class, the #57 WINHAM Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 took the honors to start on their class pole of the 24 Hr Rolex over the efforts of the #59 Crucial Motorsports McLaren 720 GT3 with crossing the finish line just a half of second ahead in the 100 Minute Qualifying Race.

We have set up to follow CORVETTE RACING’s C8R’s this year as we think it’s fantastic that Chevrolet is sending one of the ‘VETTES, Silver #4 , over to Europe to compete on the International stage in the WEC Series. During this practice weekend and Qualifying Race, the C8R Team in the new “GT3” Trim have been a bit slow early on, and don’t think it’s “Sandbagging”…..Pretty sure they will make progress and with IMSA’s BOP, Balance of Performance, they have been granted a larger intake Air Restrictor which should help with top end speed and probably some coming on to the throttle out of few of the road courses turns. The best that the team could do in the Qualifying Race was 9th in Class, 33rd Overall for the #3 Yellow Car and 10th in Class, 38th Overall for the Silver #4 Car….
