This year was the 40th Anniversary of the Classic Car and Rock n Roll event here in the Reno/Tahoe Area. We have been participating in the event for the past 35 years with many different cars at most of the event locations across the region since its inception when most of the event took place up at the University of Nevada Reno Parking lot at Lawlor Event Center where the set up was nicknamed the “Hamburger Haven”. Back then were just some cruises up and down Virginia Street and the quintesential stops at the A/W Drive Inn on Kietzke Lane. Now, most of the events take place at or near the Casinos, but back then for a number of years the Casinos didn’t officially participate as they perceived us HOT RODDORS as potential low life hoodlums and really wanted nothing to do with the event and/or the organizers until they realized that wasn’t the case and could make a bunch of money from the event. Now the event has turned into an International Show Event with over 5000 cars and close to a quarter of a million people that show up at the beginning of August each year as an economic boon for Reno/Sparks and the Tahoe Region.
Here are just a few pictures from this years event. Over the past 10 yrs or so, we have pretty much just hung out all week between the Peppermill and the Atlantis Casinos as they are close by and we get to see people doing same that get together say just this once a year.
Thanks for stopping by and as always……….TACH IT UP……!!!

A beautiful 1963 Corvette Split Window in Tuxedo Black

Super clean “61 Chevy Impala Convertible

Always like seeing tastefully modified early Vettes. This is a 1965 Roadster with the hardtop and slight wheel flares and always great looking 5 spoke wheels

Always neat to see some other stuff besides traditional Hot Rods and Muscle Cars. Took this for my Wife. A mid sixties Mini Cooper in blue with white stripes. This is pretty much the Grandpa to our new Mini Cooper with a similar blue with white stripe paint scheme. Also like the Bug Van in the background

One of the nicer candy paint jobs we saw during the week. Spectactular brilliant orange on this 1965 Chevelle.

Neat 1958 Ford Fairlane with the Skyliner retractible roof

Nicely restored “Import” version Flatback 1971 Mach 1 Ford Mustang

Our setup again for this year. We had the ’69 Vette out along with the old original patina ’65 VW Bug. Our other Mustang Race Car was not quite ready to come back out this year and we were working diligently to get the 1966 El Camino out. We did get Da Camino out the following week for a Cars and Coffee down from the Atlantis for its kind of first maiden voyage after sitting for about 15 years or so….

These mid sixties Chevelles always look good in the very popular silver blues

A very well executed “61 Chevy Biscayne Custom in a returning color recently of a dark brown red claret that was popular in the seventies and early eighties.

A nice 1971 Resto Mod Chevy Camaro with an LS Engine Conversion.

Given we have a VW Bug out and have had a good many over the years, like to see some of these fun machines like this early 60’s Van with roof cut off to make a transport conversion that was well done….

Da Bug next to the Corvette and a 1968 Chevelle with a Kind Of Heavy Chevy Stripe

Early ’80’s El Camino in a nice marron similar to the one Show Camino we’ve had Back in the Day

Night Cruising past our camp. ’70 Chevelle SS leads a Trans Am Style 1967 Ford Mustang like Shelby ran with the Terlingua Race Team stuff on it like we have had on our Stang

Not much better for Hot Rodding than with a traditional High Boy Dry Lakes Racer Style ’32 Roadster with a Flat Head Ford V-8

1974 Ford Pantera with a great 351 Ford Cleveland V-8 in this mid engined sport car

Work in progress 1979 El Camino next to us brought back some fond memories

For the old school Custom Car Fans this was a very cool 1960 Desoto in a late fifties style with a Bug Van chase car behind
