Over the many years of being an automotive enthusiast, restorer, racer etc etc, our family and many friends have had a number of BUICKS. Typically, most “Non-Automotive or Non-Musclecar Fans” think of the Buick Brand as the bland and solid American Car with not a lot of either flash or performance. That was not really the case starting with the “Muscle Car Era” of the mid-sixties up to recently during the nineties. Great Buick models in the sixties were right there Pontiac’s GTO, Chevy’s Chevelle and Oldsmobile’s 442 from General Motors side of performance. Models such as the early Skylark and Gran Sport options, the GSX was awesome in early seventies, eighties brought the Grand National and T-Type and into nineties and early 2000’s with the Regal GS and it’s supercharged/blown V-6 that were the “Gentlemen’s Hot Rod’s” with the moniker of going “FAST WITH CLASS”.
One funny anecdote on these cars was from around 15 years ago or so where my brother and I were restoring a 1966 GS. We were in process of putting the car in primer and had most of the trim off including deck lid and hood letters. One of my boys, I do not remember which one, I will have to ask this week at Thanksgiving, saw the individual letters laying on the paint/work bench. The letters had just been tossed on top and were not in any particular order and spelled out BUCKI instead of Buick….. One of them asked: What kind of car is a “BUCKI”?. After laughing our butt’s off, told them it was a Buick, GM Muscle Car etc etc. Ever since that day, we have laughingly car all our Buick’s,….BUCKI’s and even named them Bucki One all the way up to I think, Bucki Seven with our last one being a 1998 Buick Regal GS with the supercharged engine that was very quick and handled great for a factory front wheel driver. That car was bought here locally after it was on show at the RENO AIR RACES.
Trying to find some more pictures of all the BUCKI’s but below are a few….
Until next time…TACH IT UP…..!!
The 1966 BUICK GS in cruise line at Hot August Nights. I believe this was BUCKI FOUR?
BUCKI FOUR again the year before in the primer talked about above with some pretty “funky” spray can flames for H.A.N. 1999, I think…
A “Tale of Two Bucki’s”…..The black 1971 GSX prototype clone with a built 455 next to our good friend’s 1987 Regal T-Type. Both of these machines were very fast. BUCKI FIVE and BUCKI SIX.
Interior shot of BUCKI FIVE, the “71 GSX replica. “Fast with Class” with white pearl interior.
An ‘artistic” shot of the stylized Skylark on the 1965 Skylark GS after it was painted Hot Rod Red. This was from BUCKI TWO. Looking for more shots of “the two”
BUCKI SEVEN…The 1998 Regal Supercharged GS next to my 1970 1/2 RS/SS Camaro. New Muscle vs. Old Muscle. I hate to say it but, that “new” GS was just as fast, if not faster on top end then the old Camaro, and much more comfortable. My wife was using the Fast Black BUCKI then as a daily driver and then it went to my son who used it regularly for a long time up until just last year when it was donated to the local veterans group. It was “done used up” after many hard miles. Live on…All You BUCKI Fans….!!
